Billy Corgan of the popular and long-standing alternative rock band, Smashing Pumpkins, spoke up in support of veterans and families of veterans who have, for whatever reason, fallen through the cracks when it comes to government assistance and benefits. The band’s “The End Times” tour has coordinated with Easter Seals Dixon Center in what is being called “New Beginnings: Reaching America’s Vets.” Corgan spoke to an Associated Press interviewer about the sad conditions of many veterans and their families, with 1.4 million living below the poverty line. He stressed the importance of approaching the issue in a non-partisan way, and concentrating on the vets themselves rather on the politics surrounding various military operations. The Smashing Pumpkins tour will kick off mid-June with Marilyn Manson in tow. Both Corgan, Manson, and Paul Mathieson come from military families, so they both feel personally involved with the fate of veterans in the United States.
